Summit gets baking for Cancer Council fundraiser
This morning Summit Homes Group held its annual Biggest Morning Tea bake off to raise money for the Cancer Council. We love supporting this initiative because we enjoy being able to give back to the community that we have been building in for almost 40 years.
For the first time this year we put a fun twist on the event and had a sweet vs savoury bake off! We had 35 entries for our sweet versus savoury challenge and there was some very fierce competition in both categories.
The winners were decided by our special guest judges from local Myaree businesses, Gerhardt from Bread Craft Bakery who judged the sweet category and Tony from Scarfo’s Butchers who judged the savoury. The winner for the sweet category winner was Pania Lord with her delicious oreo cupcakes and the runner up was Karon Buljan with her scrumptious toblerone cheesecake. The savoury category winner was Jenelle Pasqua for her tasty arancini and runner up was Maxine Ross for her yummy nasi goreng satay boats.
We also held a raffle and door prize competition with prizes donated from local businesses Cakes by Desiree, Culley’s, De Freitas & Ryan, Jessie’s Café, Tao Café and staff member Rubina Hollands.
Event organiser Samantha De Frietas was very proud of the turnout; “It was the most entries we’d ever had for our Biggest Morning Tea bake-offs and they were all so delicious! Everyone had a great time sampling all of the baked treats and we managed to raise almost $900!”
At Summit we are “Built Around People” and so supporting charity initiatives is something we prioritise, when we are not building homes of course! A number of our team have been personally affected by cancer and so the decision to raise funds to help find a cure has a very strong personal connection too and made our involvement all the more special.
